    for summer – day 4

Not much happened today – family have gone to Flamingoland and we are having a leisurely day just pottering about the house. I keep meaning to write some more of my book (as apparently everyone has a story in them) and I have all of these ideas floating around in my head and the first 2000 words on paper but apart from this blog I haven’t written anything yet. Maybe next week! We visited our favourite Indian restaurant for tea, we meet one of our sons and his girlfriend there. The food is delicious, the staff extremely professional and the menu extensive we opted for the specials banquet and at…

    for summer – day 3

A relatively quiet morning after the exertions of the last couple of days. Breakfast at my sister’s house, a stroll around her village, back for coffee and then home. Ten pin bowling in the afternoon. A living Social deal for the six of us – four adults and two children. We hadn’t visited the MFA in Sunderland previously and we were impressed by the offer and the facilities. A good time was had by all from the 3 year old to the 66 year old. Our only comment would be that two games were a wee bit excessive as with six people playing, one game took an hour and the…

    for summer – day 2

Our little man for breakfast, then boring but essential shopping at Asda, Metro Centre, lunch and a swimming trip. Our grandsons love swimming so we all headed off to Bannatyne’s gym in Durham. Four of us are members two weren’t but they were allowed in for Starbuck’s coffee and could come and see the children enjoy the pool. Durham isn’t our usual gym but they allow children in earlier to swim so we thought we would give it a try. The facilities in general are good, very clean but we weren’t keen on having to go down a flight of stairs to the pool with small children we thought it…

    for summer – day 1

Four years ago I didn’t think I’d have been writing a post about the school holidays as I left education very disillusioned. However an enforced redundancy from an office job led me to seek out the classroom once again and dear reader I have loved every minute of the last five and a half weeks. The school was lovely, the staff fabulous and the children – well they were just an assortment of delightfulness! I sent my sister this text on Friday morning: ‘I’ve got that wonderful elated feeling you get at the beginning of the 6 weeks holidays that I didn’t think I’d ever feel again.’ Yes after only…

    Blackpool

I know lots of you (well if anyone read my posts) would feel repelled by my recent excursion but I’m not afraid to say that I love Blackpool. Why do I love Blackpool? Well I just do. For one week every summer we used to go to Blackpool for our summer holiday it was the event of the year and although we just go for short, generally overnight stays now my enthusiasm for the place has never dulled. I love seeing who can spot the tower first. I love saving my 2ps to put in the slots at Coral Island. I love the fish and chips, the kiss me quick…

    Newspaper Bag

We saw these recycled newspaper bags for sale at the Living North show and I decided to have a go a making one tonight. It needs a bit of tweaking but not too bad for a first attempt. Uses up our daily newspapers if nothing else. Will definitely be using them as my new take to work lunch bag you never know they might catch on.

  • Follow Me

    Missed a few …

Have the heard the children’s rhyme 1, 2 miss a few 99, 100? Well this is what my ‘Follow Me’ post has been like recently. I’ve kept up the exercise and gym visiting but as far as food has been concerned there’s nothing really to write home about. We’ve been away which I find is always difficult food wise and we are going away again next week. I do fill my day with my 5 a day and try and eat healthily but at the moment it’s difficult. But on a positive note I’ve just had a low fat yoghurt with my coffee and not a kitkat! Onward and upward…

Bar Farm Antiques & Birkin Fisheries Tea Rooms

We visited two new places at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The first delight was a placed we’d actually seen on an antiques tv program. Bar Antiques is a series of large ‘sheds’ packed to the rafters with antique and collectible items to meander around and purchase. There were several general sheds and a vintage clothing shed, there’s also an array of items situated outdoors.  A tea room in an converted 1965  Albion Carnival truck is very quirky, we had a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake, the lemon cake was particularly good. The tea room even has a traditional burner to snuggle up…
