    for summer – day 4

Not much happened today – family have gone to Flamingoland and we are having a leisurely day just pottering about the house. I keep meaning to write some more of my book (as apparently everyone has a story in them) and I have all of these ideas floating around in my head and the first 2000 words on paper but apart from this blog I haven’t written anything yet. Maybe next week! We visited our favourite Indian restaurant for tea, we meet one of our sons and his girlfriend there. The food is delicious, the staff extremely professional and the menu extensive we opted for the specials banquet and at…

Bar Farm Antiques & Birkin Fisheries Tea Rooms

We visited two new places at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The first delight was a placed we’d actually seen on an antiques tv program. Bar Antiques is a series of large ‘sheds’ packed to the rafters with antique and collectible items to meander around and purchase. There were several general sheds and a vintage clothing shed, there’s also an array of items situated outdoors.  A tea room in an converted 1965  Albion Carnival truck is very quirky, we had a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake, the lemon cake was particularly good. The tea room even has a traditional burner to snuggle up…

    Day 11

The long bank holiday weekend hooray! Poached egg on toast for breakfast, cup of tea. Walked partly around village to post birthday card. Made use of the glorious weather and drove to Tynemouth with. A picnic. We walked along the seafront and wandered up the Main Street to the market inside the train station. Tynemouth is well worth the visit if you haven’t been, the market is open every Saturday and Sunday and sells an eclectic mix of new, old, very old and artisan goods etc. The beach is very clean, you can sit for ages watching the brave swimmers (the North Sea is freezing even in the middle of summer),…

    Jashn Indian Restaurant

We love eating out and especially enjoy both Chinese and Indian food. Our favourite Indian restaurant is Jashn, Swalwell Bank near the Metro Centre. The food is delicious, the service excellent you are not rushed at all and the food is cooked to order. They have a Thursday night specials menu which is well worth checking out. Give it a try if you love Indian food I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Lazydaisydoes

    The Purple Bear

We recently visited Purple Bear in Newcastle (formerly Northumbrian Arms).  I got a Living Social voucher for my birthday so we went one Friday for breakfast. The place is very welcoming and upbeat. The decor is modern with quirky features. It was rather quiet when we were there which was a shame. I had pancakes, maple syrup and bacon, it’s a favourite of mine, and my husband had the full English, it’s a favourite of his. The food was tasty and well presented. The waiter was the appropriate amount of attentive. The menu has some great food combinations and a ‘What’s Occurring’ section. They also have a good range of…

    Wetherspoon – The Giant Bellflower

Whether you are a Wetherspoon’s fan or not I urge you to visit The Giant  Bellflower in Selby. We usually frequent for Saturday morning breakfast when we visit our son and his partner. I enjoy the pancakes, bacon and maple syrup with a side order of fruit. And the rest of the party usually have a full English. We are generally fans of Wetherspoon pubs (except Metro Centre one) and have visited many. The Bellflower is one of our favourites. It is clean, the staff are very friendly, the food is tasty, well presented, arrives quickly and is good value for money. And of course the refills of tea and…

  • Food,  Out and About

We recently visited Malmaison, Newcastle Quayside for a girly weekend. The location, hotel rooms and food were very good. We all enjoyed the treatments in the spa but we did miss a swimming pool or even a jacuzzi. When we arrived there were some complimentary truffles (they looked handmade) in the room. They were delicious, even if they were about a million syns each.  We had a cocktail each in the bar (part of the deal). I had the Painkiller, it was delicious and certainly the tastiest out of the four. After coctaiks we we were taken into the restaurant. I had the beef brisket dish. Delicious – definitely a…

    Indian Food

If you are a fan of Indian food and you live in the North East then visit the Jashn at Swalwell. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are so friendly nothing is a bother to them. We often visit when we leave the Metro Centre Thursday nights as they have a special menu. But we most recently visited with our three boys and their partners as we have a few birthdays near each other so we kill two (or more) birds with one birthday meal. When there are a few of us, we always ask for the private room with the sunken table, we think it is very…

    Food Glorious Food

We are big foodies in our house and like nothing better than discussing what we are going to eat a teatime whilst still having breakfast! We generally eat in but whenever we get the opportunity we love to go out and sample what’s on offer. I will post pictures and write reviews about the places we try.
